There is light at the end of the tunnel! With cities and countries around the world preparing to ease the restrictions from Covid-19 the prospect of returning to the office is only days or weeks away.
However, the pre-Covid workplace with open workspaces and communal coffee and lunch breaks are being replaced by social distancing and face masks. So how can you deal with this new norm and keep your teams inspired as they go back to work?
It is first important to acknowledge that the office will be different. Communicate this to your team and give your team the time to process this new concept – it may not mean much to some, but for others it will take time to come to terms with this new reality.
Think of ways to make your team feel comfortable in the workplace and explain these to them. It is not a given that everyone is going to feel comfortable coming back right away, so make sure that they know they are safe and that precautions are in place for their well-being.
Lastly, continue working with the tools used during home office times and make them part of your new daily routine. We have all adjusted our working habits and learned new ways of interacting, so why not keep these now familiar tools in place? You may find they can be even more efficient even when you are in the office and their familiarity can be comforting as your team transitions back to full speed.
Remember, we are all in this together and we will all need to learn to adapt to yet another new situation. By keeping an open dialogue and open communication with your team, it will make the transition easier and your team stronger.
